Mary & I made an effort to select a range of reasonably priced, tasty wines by spread of varietals, including France, Italy, Oregon, California and Washington states. Corkscrews are available on the refrigerators and in the Portland Head and Bass Harbor suites, and wine glasses are in all guest rooms. PROSECCO BRUT DOC, CANELLA – fresh & fragrant flavors of zesty apple, white peach & melon leading to a long & fruity finish. Made w/ chardonnay from vineyards in Alto Adige. Quality is obvious! $25
BRUT, GLORIA FERRER SONOMA- California champagne! Light & elegant w/ pear citrus & floral aromas & flavors. Creamy texture, 91% Pinot Noir/ 9% Chardonnay. $28
PINOT GRIGIO, LA VIS/DIPINTI TRENTINO IGT (2012) – Has fresh aromas of pears, vanilla, flowers & spice. Flavors of Granny Smith apples & pears. Great aperif w/ good acidity on a crisp finish.
CHARDONNAY, LA CREMA SONOMA COAST (2012) – Long hang time on the vines, Russian River, Carneros fruit, medium to heavy toast barrels, sur lie aging contribute to rich lemon, green apple, caramel and spice laden wine. Creamy mouth feel, elegany & polished.
CHARDONNAY, CLOS LA CHANCE (2011) – Stainless steel aged, not maloactic fermented. Opens w/ strong aromas of freshly cut green apple, melon & pear, balanced w/ an acidic component. Long finish w/ lingering flavors of pineapple & banana.
ROSSO, ELVIO TINTERO PIEDMONT (2010) – Blend of 40% Barbera, 40% Nebbiolo, 10% Dolcetto, 10% Cabernet Franc fermented & aged in stainless steel barrels for 7 to 8 months to preserve fresh fruit aromas & flavors, bottled unfiltered. Delicious every day red, INNKEEPERS CHOICE!!
PINOT NOIR, MONTINORE WILLAMETTE ESTATE (2011) – Elegant garnet color w/ plenty of cherry & strawberry flavors w/ a smooth finish.
MERLOT, SEVEN FALLS WAHLUKE SLOPE COLUMBIA VALLEY (2010) Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks & oak barrels. Blended after fermentation, barrel aged in American & French oak barrels for 18 months. Lovely juicy quality, w/ good volume & weight & a nice silky finish. I’m not a big merlot fan, but do find this very tasty!
CABERNET SAUVIGNON, MARC MONDAVI’S THE DIVING ROD, ALEXANDER VALLEY (2011) – Named for winemaker Mac Mondavi’s knack for finding water under vineyards.
CHATEAU TESSIER, MONTAGNE SAINT-EMILION (2009) – From the flagship property of Jonathan Malthus, blend of 85% Merlot & 15% Cabernet Franc from a great vintage! Opaque blue/ purple w/ notes of charcoal, cassis, blackberry & spring flowers as well as hint of subtle background oak, this wine is opulent, dense, pure & multi- dimensional.
